The Big Breakfast is a no-fuss breakfast café tucked into Donegall Street that caters mainly to early risers and those looking to kickstart a busy day in Belfast. With a straightforward focus on traditional morning fare like bacon and egg baps and hearty English breakfasts, it suits anyone after a substantial, familiar meal without the frills.

The atmosphere here is welcoming and warm, shaped in large part by the friendly local women who run the place. They’re patient with visitors unfamiliar with northern Ireland breakfast terms, creating a down-to-earth vibe that makes the spot feel like part of the neighborhood rather than a tourist stop. It’s the kind of place where you might find locals in workwear mingling with travelers grabbing a quick but satisfying bite before setting out to explore the city.

Busy weekday mornings see a steady flow as people come in for a solid start to their day, while weekends offer a relaxed but lively scene perfect for catching up over one of their famously fresh fried soda breads or a classic fry-up. Portions are generous and the food arrives fresh, cooked with care rather than speed-only focus, which means waiting a few minutes is part of the rhythm but well worth it.

This café isn’t about trendy presentation or cutting-edge menus; it’s about reliable, filling breakfasts served with genuine local hospitality. If your day in Belfast involves sightseeing or just moving at a brisk pace, The Big Breakfast provides the kind of fuel and friendly atmosphere that gets you going without fuss or fanfare.

Cannot say enough nice things about this spot! Discovered this gem because I was staying around the corner on my recent visit to Belfast and needed a quick easy breakfast my first morning. It was so good I went back the next day for more. The ladies who cook and run the joint are so kind and hospitable, putting up with my American ignorance of breakfast slang (baps, chips, fry ups, fries, etc) and made sure I was full and taken care of each time. Not a fancy or trendy place but would absolutely recommend for the affordable, great simple breakfasts and kindness. Thank you!!
